Infantophilia is not recognized?

I believe there is a loophole concerning infantophilia/nepiophilia in the early stages of development.
The diagnosis of Pedophilia according to the DCM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) states that: Over a period of at least 6 months, recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children (generally age 13 years or younger). The fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
The person is at least age 16 years and at least 5 years older than the child or children in the first category.

(At least age 16) is understandable for pedophilia in general, but excludes infantophilia in the early diagnosis. Because unlike regular pedophiles, infantophiles are attracted to infants (0-4 years), this means that in early puberty they already know there sexual preference is not ordinary, unlike regular pedophiles who will discover this at a later age.

(Example pedophile: Tom is 12 and prefers 12-year-old girls, Tom does not find this odd, because his other friends also like 12-year-old girls. Tom is 21 and still prefers and realizes he is a pedophile)
(Example infantophile: John is 12 prefers 2-year-old girls, John realizes that this is odd, because nobody else prefers 2-year-old girls)

In my opinion Infantophilia is a sub-category of pedophilia.
But is it still so important to discuss these different nomenclature of paraphilias?
There are many, many types of paraphilias and so there are also many nomenclature for each different type of an sexual preference.

Interesting. But i don't think this "loophole" has that kind of relevance. Someone below the age of 16 in most cases doesn't have that level of self-awareness and his sexuality is still not fully fixed in means of orientation.

Other than that i find these DCM definitions kind of demeaning and generalizing at the same time. It is kind of deceptive, because many people think these definitions of psychological disorders are actually an accurate description of how pedophiles really are. And this obviously doesn't hold true if you look around how individual and distinct pedophiles seem to be from the many many posts you can read on the internet. Sadly in real life the only source of information are convicted pedophiles who crossed an obvious line and may have real psychological issues. This somewhat distorts a realistic picture.

But beside all the ramblings, i do think that there are certain ages of attraction which have a peak, if you would go ahead and chart a graph. I think there is a peak from 9-12, a peak somewhere around 6, and a kind of baby to toddler-love or whatever.
But once you start to "analyse" further and find more descriptions and make more definitions and whatnot, you find yourself in a bind such as not really having found out new information at all besides knowing that the big picture is really more scrambled and individual, that you might just give up and say: Hey, there is not THE pedophile, everyone is different.

what ovid means, a 16 yo does not delop any further basic interests in sexual terms. nevertheless they are self-aware of their sexuality!
Refering to your question, an infantophile does realize his attraction first at the age of his prefered aoa - but eventually does forget about it; or does repress the yearning and wishfulness due to your social pressure (my opinion).
If you take a look at the peaks they represent the milestones exactly: and (for "toddlers") 2-4 joining the kindergarden; 6-7 scool enrolment (loosing milk teeth ^^); 9-11 beginning puberty
